Mallikarjun Kharge to be removed as KPCC president?

Special Correspondent

Some hold him responsible for worsening ties with Janata Dal(Secular)

Bangalore: The All India Congress Committee, which is keen on mending fences with the Janata Dal (Secular) and save the Government in the State, is stated to be considering changing the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) M. Mallikarjun Kharge.

A section of the Congress is stated to be mounting a campaign against Mr. Kharge holding him responsible for the worsening in the relations with the Janata Dal (S) leading to the revolt by H.D. Kumaraswamy.

It is stated that the Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh was not in favour of the alliance with the All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD), led by the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, but Mr. Kharge went with the leaders who were involved in the AHINDA movement and entered into the tie-up for the zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

For the sake of helping the AIPJD win in one or two zilla panchayats, the Congress is now in danger of losing the Government.

It is also being stated that Mr. Kharge's stewardship at the Congress Bhavan has witnessed a new high in attacks on the Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda. Though the same was the case when Janardhana Poojary was PCC chief, there was a difference. Mr. Poojary was only reacting to allegations by Mr. Deve Gowda and did not criticise him on his own.
