`Batchonki kahaniyan' released

  • Importance of stories in moulding children's behaviour stressed
  • Stories to help children open up their minds

    KADAPA: Children can be made conscious of moral values by narrating stories right from the primary education stage, Urdu professor of Sri Venkateswara University Sattar Sahir said on Sunday.

    Stress on moral values

    Moral values cannot be imbued on computers, he said after releasing `Batchonki kahaniyan', a compilation of 70 short stories by Urdu poet Sattar Faizi at Shahmiria library here. Calling for workshops for teachers on narrating short stories, he said every library should have a section for children's short stories. One's knowledge of language could be honed up through reading and narrating stories, he observed.

    Poor supply of books

    The Government was neglecting supply of books to Urdu schools and libraries, Telugu Desam Party State Minority Cell Chairman V.S. Ameer Babu alleged. Stories were a part of children's lives and would open up their minds, he said.

    People would comprehend about humanity, culture, service etc. through short stories, Government Arts College Principal A.M. Basha said. He said that children's stories must be told from third standard.

    Stories would impart morals, imbue confidence and provoke thoughts among children, Khankah Shamiriya Peethadhipathi Ahmed Peer Shahmiria, said.

    Children love short stories, which not only entertain but also educate them, Rayalaseema Writers' Federation president Sagar Zayyedi said. Urdu writer Anwar suggested conduct of story narration competitions. State Urdu Teachers' Association district secretary Mohd. Bilal spoke.

    Urdu Schools Inspection Officer Abdul Rab assured supply of copies of Batchonki Kahaniyan to all Urdu schools in the district. Mr. Sattar Faizi felicitated Dr. Sagar Zayyedi.
