HYDERABAD: Politics, meaningful dialogue to improve emergency medicare and a `chowki' dinner! A strange combination indeed but that's what it was. The participants? Young and upwardly mobile Members of Parliament, the people who can change the face of things given their grit, determination and power to achieve. Nizamabad MP Madhu Yaskhi Goud got young and royal faces together at his residence off Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. The Hyderabadi `tehzeeb' was at its best and the mouth-watering Deccani fare comprising - the `mutton biryani', "mirchi ka salan", chicken, `patthar ka ghost' and stuff like that and of course our very own `Qurbani ka meetha' and `double ka meetha' floored the guests. With the Satyam Chairman, B. Ramalinga Raju, also present, the MPs' discussion turned to `108', the Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) and Byrraju Foundation's initiative in making emergency medicare available to 20 million people spread across East and West Godavari districts, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Warangal, apart from Hyderabad. The MPs present included Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot, Sandeep Dixit, Milind Deora, Jitin Prasad, Tushar Chaudary, Shelja, Deepender Singh Hooda, Navin Jindal and Purandeshwari - the hope of the Congress. The VIPs evinced keen interest in significant advances on the emergency medicare front in Andhra Pradesh. A couple of bureaucrats and senior officials attended the get-together.
Significant developments
While nothing has been firmed up enough for making a formal announcement, two developments are sure to be significant. On one hand, Mr. Ramalinga Raju is understood to have decided to make `108' available in all districts of the State and sought the help of Mr. Madhu Yaskhi. On the other hand, the young MPs sought AP's help in replicating the `108' model in their respective constituencies. Mr. Madhu told The Hindu that apart from EMRI, the MPs also enquired about purified drinking water supplied by the Byrraju Foundation at 12 paisa-a-litre.
