Murder cases to be reopened

Thousands of unsolved murders from Northern Ireland's Troubles are to be reinvestigated by a specialist police team which has vowed to attempt to lay to rest the ghosts of 30 years of violence for the sake of the victims' families. The team, which has a £30 million budget and which is led by the retired London police commander, Dave Cox, revealed that they would examine 3,268 killings in order to build up an exhaustive pattern of murders for the first time. It had been estimated there were around 2,000 unsolved murders during the Troubles, including some of the most politically sensitive and emotive bombings and assassinations. —
