NEW DELHI: Sunday saw a large number of children from various school of the Capital display their creative skills as they took part in the Classmate Young Artist 2005 drawing competition organised by ITC Limited at Kalka Public School in Alaknanda. More than 700 students from Classes V to VIII from around 50 schools took part in the event, drawing beautiful paintings around the core theme of "Beautiful India" depicting the nation in the year 2025. Through the event that is also being held in other cities including Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, ITC aims to find budding painters and give them the right platform so that their hidden talent could be nurtured. Renowned painter and sculptor M.K. Puri, who was the chief guest at the event, led the jury panel. The names of the winners will be announced during the city finals of Classmate Young Author Contest 2005 on January 28. Prizes worth Rs.20,000 will be given to the top three paintings and 10 consolation winners. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Puri said such events were necessary for the healthy all round development of children. .
