Vignesh qualifies for the main draw

HYDERABAD: V. Vignesh qualified for the main draw in the boys singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Armugam of Karnataka in the Cosmopolitan Club All0India ranking juniors tennis tournament in Bhimavaram on Sunday, according to information received here.

Sikki, Sai Dutt win

N. Sikki Reddy and Guru Sai Dutt, both trainees of SAAP-Gopi Chand Academy, cornered glory winning four and two titles each respectively in the Maharashtra Open badminton tournament in Thane on Sunday, according to coach P. Govardhan Reddy.

The two are trainees of SAAP-Gopi Chand Academy. Sikki won the singles titles in the under-13, 16 age groups. Guru Sai Dutt won the singles and doubles events of under-16 category. Prashanth, another trainee from the same Academy, was runner-up in the under-16 singles. Sikki Reddy was adjudged `best player' of the tournament.

Easy for Youth League

Youth League scored a comfortable 4-2 win against AG Andhra Pradesh in the A-1 Division hockey league championship match at Begumpet Police Stadium here. The winner led 3-1 at the break.

Winger Virender Singh was on target to give Youth League early lead and soon Shiv Kalyan and S.Arun struck once each to make it 3-0. However, AG AP had the satisfaction of reducing the lead through Habib Mohammad before the break.

In the second session, one more goal came through Madhu which completed the target for the winner while HabibMohammad was in the scoring act once again to reduce the lead to 2-4.

Veterans TT

The eighth AP Veterans table tennis championship for different age groups will be held at Anand Nagar Welfare Assocaition Academy (Khairatabad) from January 29. The event assumes significance as the State teams for the 13th Veterans nationals will be picked based on the performances here. Contact S.P. AIIE volleyball

All India Industrial Exhibition Society volleyball tournament will be organised at Hyderabad YMCA from January 25 for men and women. Interested clubs can contact the secretary of Hyderabad District Volleyball Association for further details at the office in Lal Bahadur Stadium.

Sudha in Vizzy team

B. Sudha Kiran, a student of Dr. L. Bullayya College, a Andhra University team member, has been selected in the South Zone team for the Vizzy Trophy cricket tournament, scheduled to be held in Mumbai from February 3 to 10.

An off-spinner, Sudha Kiran, proved his mettle in the recent quarterfinals of the South Zone inter-university tournament held at Manipal and Mangalore claiming five for 21, though AU lost to Osmania University. An AU player finds a place in the Vizzy Trophy for the first time after a decade.
