Revenue adalats benefit over 2 lakh petitioners

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Revenue adalats held at village level all over Kerala have benefited 2,11,087 petitioners who had been running from pillar to post seeking resolution to a horde of issues such as title deeds, possession certificates and other mandatory documents.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Revenue and Law Minister K.M. Mani said that revenue adalats were conducted between January 3 and 20 covering 1,566 village offices in the State, under 14 collectorates. The adalats received 2,44,537 petitions. A majority of the petitioners belonged to the lower strata of society and much wanted relief was brought to these segments by disposal of long-pending files. In the light of the experience, Mr. Mani said he proposed to bring in legislation to institutionalise adalats making it mandatory to hold biannual village-level exercise.
