CHENNAI: The National Campaign for Political Reforms will launch its Vote India campaign here on January 26. The Catalyst Trust will launch the campaign, which is part of a nationwide movement. "The Vote India campaign is being launched by a conglomeration of civil society groups in ... Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata. The idea was mooted by Jayaprakash Narayan, convenor, Lok Satta, Hyderabad. The mandate is to deliberate on issues of electoral reforms, including proportional representation," S. Krishnaswamy, managing director, Krishnaswamy Associates, one of the campaign's core committee members, told presspersons here on Wednesday.
Documentary film
An hour-long documentary film, `Who loses when India wins?' produced by Krishnaswamy Associates, will be screened at the launch of the campaign. It will examine corruption in and criminalisation of the electoral system and caste factors and family clout in elections.
The experience of other countries that have opted for either of the two models will also be discussed in the film. It features Dhirtiman Chaterjee and theatre personality P.C.Ramakrishna. Written and directed by Dr. Krishnaswamy, it will be screened free for the public at M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women.
