V.K. Bali takes oath as Chief Justice

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Justice Vinod Kumar Bali was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court at a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan here on Sunday.

Governor R.L. Bhatia administered the oath of office to him. Several dignitaries, including Law Minister K.M. Mani, Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly N. Sundaran Nadar, judges of the Kerala High Court and top bureaucrats attended the function.

Justice Bali was serving as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court before taking up the new assignment. He graduated in law from the Punjab University in 1967 and subsequently practised at the Karnal District Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court. He had proved his mettle as a lawyer in almost all areas of the profession. He gained reputation as an expert in subjects such as the Constitution, Labour Law, Industrial Disputes Law and Criminal Law.

He became a senior advocate in 1987 and was appointed judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1991. For eight years, he served as the Chairman of Haryana Legal Aid Authority.

Justice Bali was appointed a judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2005 and has been functioning as the Executive Chairman of the Rajasthan Legal Aid Authority since September that year.
