NEW DELHI: Reacting sharply to the proposed move by the Tis Hazari district courts' lawyers here to lock the entry and exit gates of the courts this coming Monday in protest against the opening of the new Rohini district courts in West Delhi, the Delhi High Court on Saturday issued a stern warning that "serious consequences will follow in accordance with law" if the lawyers go ahead with their plans.

The decision to firmly deal with the striking lawyers was taken at a meeting of the Administrative Committee of the High Court chaired by Chief Justice M. Katju. It adopted a resolution outlining measures to deal with the situation in a befitting manner.

"The Committee now resolves that the civil administration and police will take effective and strong steps to ensure that no one is allowed to disrupt or interfere with the functioning of the Tis Hazari, Rohini and other district courts, and if anyone attempts to do so, strong action will be taken against him or her in accordance with law," the resolution warned. "The striking lawyers must know that enough is enough!" it added.

Video cameras would be installed on the court premises to identify individuals indulging in hooliganism, violence, exhortation or incitement to violence, intimidation and interference with judicial work, the resolution said.

"The Court warns the striking lawyers that the proposed shutting down of the Tis Hazari, Rohini or other district courts will not be tolerated and unless they desist from interfering with the judicial work, serious consequences will now follow," the resolution added.

The Committee directed the Registry to send copies of the resolution to the Chief Justice of India, judges of the High Court, the District Judge and judges of all the district courts.

Evidently frustrated due to lack of response and disapproval of their acts by the public and responsible lawyers, the Delhi Bar Association (DBA) had adopted the resolution to lock up the Tis Hazari District courts, the Court Committee's resolution said.
