TIRUCHI: Ruling out the possibility of a third front in the State, Communist Party of India leader R. Nallakannu on Sunday said the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) - led Democratic Progressive Alliance in Tamil Nadu was intact. Replying to a query, Mr. Nallakannu said that seats sharing among DPA partners would be a smooth affair. The alliance was firm and the leaders hoped to win the Assembly election, he said. The CPI would hold the State council meeting at Pudukottai on February 11 and 12. The main agenda would be to gear the party for the Assembly poll. It would identify seats it wished to contest, Mr. Nallakannu said.
Palar issue
On the Palar issue, the CPI leader said it was the responsibility of all political parties to remain united and stop the dam construction at Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh. Maintaining that the Centre must intervene to resolve the issue, Mr. Nallakannu said the State unit would talk to its counterpart in Andhra Pradesh besides bringing the matter to the notice of the Centre. The lifting of the ban on recruitment and announcement of concessions for government staff, teachers and farmers were made with an eye on the Assembly poll, Mr. Nallakannu said.
