CPI(M) cries halt to eviction of hawkers

HYDERABAD: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), Andhra Pradesh Committee has urged the government to stop the drive to evict hawkers in the city and instead hold discussions with trade associations and political parties to find alternative measures.

CPI (M) secretary B.V.Raghavulu who wrote to Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy on the issue wanted the municipal authorities to be restrained from action against hawkers till alternative measures were explored. He said there were around 1.50 lakh hawkers in the city.
