BANGALORE: A 10-member gang assaulted three persons in a house before robbing them of their cash and jewellery in Visveshapura in the Nelamangala police station limits of Bangalore Rural district on Sunday. Veera Venkatarao (28), a private steel factory employee, his wife, Maheshwari (25), and his mother, Kenchamma, were asleep when the culprits knocked at the door. It was around 3.30 a.m. Taking it for an alarm from his neighbour, Venkatarao got up and opened the door. The gang of 10 persons, armed with iron rods, barged into the house and assaulted Venkatarao. Hearing the noise, Maheshwari and Kenchamma rushed to the rescue of Venkatarao. The culprits then hit the women, before rummaging for valuables. The intruders took away Rs. 50,000 in cash and several gold and silver ornaments. Soon after the dacoits left the place, Venkatarao called the police station, about 500 metres away from his house. The police came to the spot around 10 a.m. The injured persons were shifted to a private hospital.
