HYDERABAD: Taking time off from the deliberations at the Congress' 82nd plenary session on Sunday, the high command heard the views of senior party leaders from Karnataka, where its coalition Government is facing a threat. A majority of them said they preferred the present arrangement to continue and wanted to prevent the BJP from assuming power. However, a section of the leaders felt that the State should go in for fresh elections. Party sources said a high power committee that included Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Antony and Ahmed Patel heard the views. Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh, PCC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, three Union Ministers, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, K. Rehman Khan, senior leaders C.K. Jaffer Sharif, B. Shankaranand, AICC general secretary Margaret Alva and B.K. Hari Prasad were among the 30 leaders who attended the meeting. PTI reports: Mr. Singh later met Congress president Sonia Gandhi and discussed the situation in the State. Party sources said the meeting took place at the special cottage at the Gachibowli Stadium. There was no official work on what transpired at the meeting.
