This Day That Age
The Congress Working Committee has made it clear that no changes will be made in the decisions already arrived at or that might be taken later in regard to the reorganisation of States because of violence or terroristic methods. In a resolution adopted on January 23 after a three-hour meeting in New Delhi, the CWC said: "It must be clearly understood that there can be no surrender to violence and methods of terrorism and they have to be met with all force in order to protect innocent citizens and the well-being of the nation." Referring to the Maharashtra PCC's call to all Maharashtra Ministers and MLAs to resign from their posts and a similar move in Bihar and Orissa, it warned that such resignations in the present context "can only encourage mob action and violence and are injurious to the nation. Even from the point of view of the Congress' constitution, no resignation can be tendered without the approval of the Parliamentary Board or the Working Committee." No Pradesh Committee, the resolution said, was competent to demand such resignations.
