Corporation Bank to set up libraries in 100 villages

It will be a centenary year gift to rural people, says bank

HASSAN: N. Muralidhara Kamath, Assistant General Manager, Corporation Bank, has said that the bank has drawn up plans to set up libraries in more than 100 villages in the country as a centenary year gift to rural people.

Inaugurating a library set up with the help of the bank in Yagachi High

School at Kandli village in Hassan taluk recently, he said the bank has set up eight libraries in Hassan taluk by providing books and furniture worth Rs. 80,000 each, and the bank will provide books worth Rs. 10,000 every year.

The programme of setting up libraries in villages in the country will be implemented in the next four years. He urged the villagers and the students to make use of the facility extended by the bank.

Help for students

The Secretary of the Yagachi Education Society, T.J. Thimmappa, said the Corporation Bank is helping meritorious students to continue their education in rural areas and it has sanctioned Rs. 1 lakh for the construction of lecture halls. V.K. Chopra, Managing Director of the bank, inaugurated the library and felicitated students who have secured the highest marks in the examination held in last March.

K.L. Gopalakrishna, Executive Director of the bank, Achyut Pai, chief manager, and Raveendra, branch manager, were present.
