Strike hits work in urban co-op banks

Employees demand wage revision, due since 2001

CHENNAI:
Functioning of urban cooperative banks in the State were affected on Monday by a one-day strike called by the Cooperative Bank Employees Federation to press for an eight-point charter of demands, including wage revision.
It was total in Chennai and partial in the districts.
Federation general secretary T.Thamilarasu said though the wage revision was due from July 1, 2001, the Government was yet to announce the new wage structure. The federation members staged a demonstration in front of T.Nagar Urban Cooperative Bank.
Employees of all cooperative banks affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Bank Employees Association, staged demonstration throughout the State, except Chennai, to press the demand, association general secretary P.Balakrishnan said.
