Prakash not to serve under Kumaraswamy

Bangalore: Deputy Chief Minister M.P. Prakash and Minister for Finance and Industry P.G.R. Sindhia have refused to serve in a government headed by Working President of the State unit of Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The two, who have been siding with the party supremo H.D. Deve Gowda have made their stand clear. Both are far senior to Mr. Kumaraswamy in politics.

Mr. Sindhia called on Mr. Deve Gowda on Monday.

Golwalkar centenary celebrations panel

BANGALORE: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is preparing to celebrate the birth centenary of the organisation's second Sarsanghchalak Madhav Sadashiv Golwalkar in a grand manner.

The former Governor of Jharkhand and Bihar M. Rama Jois has been made the chairman of the centenary celebrations committee at the all-India level. Others from Karnataka are the well-known Kannada writer S.L. Bhyrappa, veteran journalist M.V. Kamath, former Test cricketer Javagal Srinath, pontiff of Siddaganga Math and the pontiff of Pejawar Math, apart from Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala.

At the State level, former Environment Secretary A.N. Yellappa Reddy has been made the chairman of the celebrations committee.

HAM radio service

BANGALORE: An amateur (HAM) radio special event station and amateur radio service offered by licensed HAM volunteers will assist the organisers in communication at Shravanabelagola, during the Mahamastakabhishekha.

Volunteers assisting the organisers would be on UHF and VHF handheld Tran receivers with some base station equipment, both fixed and mounted on vehicles. This will ensure quick communication, handling messages of public safety, crowd control and missing people information, anticipated during the event. — Staff Reporter

Rathnamma Heggade mourned

BANGALORE: The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) President H.D. Deve Gowda has mourned the death of Rathnamma Heggade, mother of D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.

In a message, Mr. Deve Gowa conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family.

Ratnamma Heggade died in a road accident near Belthangady on Saturday.
