Long hours of power cuts

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Parts of East Delhi experienced long hours of power cuts on Monday with there being no supply in some colonies for as long as six hours.

This when the peak shortage in power supplied from the Northern Grid was just 35 MW and the peak demand during the day was only 2,934 MW.

A resident of Parwana Apartments in East Delhi said while the power supply was disrupted at 11-30 a.m., the residents were completely taken unprepared as the unscheduled cut lasted a full six hours.

In Gandhi Nagar too there was no supply for around four hours during the day.

"For us, two cuts of two hours each have become a routine,'' said a shop owner.

Load shedding

The BSES spokesperson said it was "due to scarcity of power from the Northern Grip and the dip in frequency that there was rotational load shedding to maintain the system parameters''.

The Delhi Transco Limited said the problem was primarily of low frequency due to over withdrawal of power by the users. "There was no major problem though the demand-supply gap was only 35 MW with the peak demand being 2934 MW''.
