India ranks low in environment performance
New York:
India ranked among the 20 lowest-scoring countries in meeting a set of critical environmental goals such as clean drinking water and low greenhouse-gas emissions, according to a study by two U.S. universities.
The pilot study `2006 Environmental Performance Index' jointly produced by the Yale and the Columbia Universities, shows that just six nations led by New Zealand, followed by five from northern Europe have achieved 85 per cent success in achieving such goals.
The report has been reviewed by other specialists both in the United States and internationally. PTI
