"Discrimination in funds allocation"
|
CHENNAI:
Accusing the panchayat chief and executive officer of discrimination in funds allocation for development works, 12 councillors of Sembakkam special village panchayat on Monday walked out of a council meeting.
After the meeting started with panchayat president S. Chandran in the chair, some councillors charged executive officer G. Dhanasekaran with discrimination in the allocation of funds.
They alleged that Mr. Dhanasekaran failed to get sanction for projects placed for approval by the council at its December 29 meeting.
S. Lakshmipathi Raja, vice-president of the village panchayat, asked for equal distribution of funds for all wards.
Mr. Dhanasekaran said the sanction had been obtained for projects costing Rs.1.48 crore. Work was under way in many wards.
Mr. Chandran said the local body had a balance of Rs. 48 lakh.
