A GOOD START: Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chairman, Islamic Academy of Education, lighting a lamp to inaugurate a two-day workshop at Deralakatte, Mangalore, on Monday.

MANGALORE: New light is being shed on the cause and nature of disease which has led to development of more effective treatment and procedures, Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, Chairman, Islamic Academy of Education, has said. However, all this progress is useful only when this knowledge is freely shared with all members of the medical community.

Inaugurating a workshop on "Problem solving for better health" organised by the Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya Nursing College and Sreedevi Nursing College, for nursing students here on Monday, Mr. Kunhi said continuing medical education programmes play a vital role in updating the skills and knowledge of doctors and students.

He advised students to keep themselves abreast of the rapid changes in the field of medicine.

Pamela Hoyt, international nursing programme coordinator for Drefus Health Foundation, New York, said approaches on "Problem Solving for Better Health" differ according to the local situation. P.C.M. Kunhi, director (Academics and Administration) of Yenepoya Medical College, presided over the inaugural function. Vijay Kumar, secretary, Health Action People, Thiruvananthapuram, spoke. Susan Anand, principal, Yenepoya Nursing College, welcomed the gathering. Avijit Roy, organising secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.

The workshop concludes on Tuesday.
