A three-year-old boy killed in mishap

NEW DELHI: A three-year-old boy was killed when a school bus hit him at Rohini Sector 11 in North-West Delhi on Monday. The bus driver has been arrested.

The incident occurred when the bus, attached to T.T. Shah Public School at Rohini, was about to drop a Class II student, Diksha, outside her residence. Her brother, Aditya was playing outside the house when the bus hit him before coming to a halt. Aditya was rushed to the nearby Saroj Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving was registered at Prashant Vihar police station and the bus driver, Sanjay (30), has been arrested.

One held on graft charge

NEW DELHI: An employee posted with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office at Kanjhawla in North-West Delhi was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Branch of the State Government on Saturday for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs. 5,000 from a person for registration of a plot.

Angpal Singh, a resident of Kanjhawla, lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch alleging that Sarvendar Pal Singh, a patwari at the area SDM office, had demanded money for registration of a 200-yard plot. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested red-handed. Further probe into the matter is on.

Body found in a gutter

NEW DELHI: The body of an eight-year-old girl, who had gone missing from outside her house at Patel Nagar in West Delhi on Sunday, was found in a gutter in the locality on Monday. A case of murder has been registered.

According to the police, Shabina, daughter of Mustafa, a tailor living Kathputli Colony, Patel Nagar, had gone missing last evening. Further investigations are on.

Shivani murder case

NEW DELHI: Arguments in the journalist Shivani Bhatnagar murder case will resume before a Fast Track court here on February two.

The case was transferred to the court of Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track) Rajendra Kumar in accordance with a High Court order that cases that were seven years old or related to aged citizens be transferred to Fast Track courts.

Spotlight on solar energy

NEW DELHI : The Power Management Institute of NTPC Limited and Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency has organised a three-day national seminar here on "Solar energy - a viable option for rural India".

The objective of the seminar which began on Monday is to review the present status of use of rural solar energy, sensitising people about technology development, current Government policies and use of low-grade energy for rural development.

Eminent speakers from IISc. Bangalore, SEED Hyderabad, TERI, BHEL, IREDA and several NGOs shared their experiences and future options.

Vijay Dhawan remanded in judicial custody

NEW DELHI: A local court on Sunday remanded in judicial custody, Vijay Dhawan, an accused in Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's phone tapping case, till February 3.

Duty Magistrate Anand Swarup Aggarwal sent Dhawan to 13 days judicial custody after his police remand ended on Sunday.

His bail plea will come up for hearing on January 27.
