HASSAN: Though political developments are unfolding at an alarming pace in the State, Minister for Public Works and Energy H.D. Revanna does not seem to have taken them seriously as he is busy laying foundation stones for various development works and inaugurating the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Programme in the district. Will Mr. Revanna continue in the present coalition Government led by N. Dharam Singh or will he retain the same portfolios in the new coalition to be set up by his younger brother, H.D. Kumaraswamy, is the question haunting people in the district. However, Mr. Revanna is not the one to react to any political development. When presspersons met Mr. Revanna on Monday night at the Government guest-house, he only said he will follow in the footsteps of his father, H.D. Deve Gowda. "Becoming a minister is not a big thing. I have lived without the post for a long time and it will have no impact on me," he said.

He also said he is not very particular about becoming a minister and prefers to return to Paduvalahippe, his native village, and take up farming if his father advises him against joining the Cabinet led by his brother. Asked about the offer made by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yediyurappa that the Public Works and Energy portfolios will be left with Mr. Revanna, he said he has not spoken to anybody or sought any portfolio. "I will not desert my father under any circumstances and I will go wherever my father goes," he said. However, defending his brother's decision to go with the Bharatiya Janata Party, he said Mr. Kumaraswamy has little political experience and, hence, succumbed to the pressure from party MLAs. "My father is very disturbed with the recent political developments and his health is also deteriorating," he added. Refusing to comment on Mr. Kumaraswamy meeting Mr. Deve Gowda, he said he learnt about their meeting but did not know what transpired between them.
