Bringing people closer to the holy book

This will be a "link" straight from heaven. And this time not in the impersonal black and white print, but in your own handwriting. Giving people a chance to write words of inspiration with their own hands, the Embassy of Israel together with the Delhi Bible Institute has come up with a unique way to bring people closer to the holy book.

Part of a project titled "People of the World Inscribe the Bible'', it will travel to different countries across the globe so that they can inscribe verses from the book in their own hand.

Kicking off this holy trail from the Capital at the World Book Fair, the Bible will be available at the Delhi Bible Institute from January 28 for those who want to inscribe a verse in their handwriting in Hindi. For those who don't remember the verses by heart, there will be a Hindi Bible available at the stall to copy the verse down.

While at first the Bible will be written in Hindi, the embassy is planning to include other languages also. A different take on an earlier project in which 800 children from 91 countries illustrated the Bible, it is hoped that this project will also get more people to connect to the book.

An attempt to build bonds of culture, the Bible will then travel to different parts of the country to finally be deposited in the House of the Bible, which is to be built in the Valley of the Bible in Israel.

The project started in Frankfurt in October. Now coming to Indian shores, the first verse of the Bible will be written by Pastor Isaac J. Shaw at the inaugural ceremony. The Israeli Ambassador, David Danieli, will also be present at the ceremony. — Mandira Nayar
