The former minister Basavaraj Patil Attur, former MLAs M.G. Mule and Annapurnabai Ragate, and block Congress president Jagannath Tambole were present. Govind Jadhav became the president and Saraswati Neelange vice-president of Aurad Taluk Panchayat. These were unanimous choices. The president's post was reserved for a candidate of Scheduled Castes and the vice-president's post was reserved for the Other Backward Classes (B) (woman). The BJP has 16 of the 23 seats. There was some confusion when some party members opposed the nomination of Ms. Neelange and demanded that Chandramma Gurunath Eklar to be elected vice-president. Senior leader Basavaraj Patil Kollur walked out of the pre-election meeting. He accused the former MLA Gundappa Vakil of encouraging factionalism and of adopting a dictatorial style of functioning. But senior leaders intervened and resolved the matter. Party observer Raghunath Malkapure, the former MLA Gundappa Vakil, and district general secretary Babu Wali were present.
