THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Plantation Labour Committee, which met Labour Minister Babu Diwakaran in the chair, failed to reach a consensus on revision of wages of plantation workers and left the final decision to the Government. The Minister announced that the Government would issue final notification after further consultations. Representatives of managements said that crops such as tea and cardamom were still facing crisis. So, separate rates of wages should be notified for each sector. The rates proposed in the draft notification were high. The representatives of workers pointed out that there had been no revision of wages in the plantation sector for the past six years. Hence, the final notification should be issued immediately with retrospective effect. The rates needed to be hiked in consideration of the rise in prices.
