KOCHI: Block-level entrepreneur meetings, being organised by the Ernakulam District Panchayat, with help from the District Industries Centre (DIC), have been identifying ventures that can succeed in a locality in service and industrial sectors and spot entrepreneurs who can launch them. The panchayat will hold local entrepreneur meetings in all the 15 blocks in the district and a district-level meeting after their conclusion. So far, the meeting have been held in Angamaly, Parakkadavu and Paravoor. A DIC official said here that the Paravoor block meeting, held on Tuesday, was attended by 250 entrepreneurs and 65 members of local self-governments. The meeting at Angamaly was attended by 250 entrepreneurs and 50 members of panchayats and the municipal council. At Parakkadavu, there were 150 entrepreneurs and 40 people's representatives, he added. The DIC is offering technical help to the district panchayat and holding technical sessions at the meetings. The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and the Khadi Board are involved in the programme. The focus of the sessions is a presentation on the local industrial potential based on research by the Department of Applied Economics of the Cochin University of Science and Technology. The presentation is followed by a technical session conducted by DIC officials. Bankers and officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board and panchayats give clarifications on the details of requirements for launching a new industrial or service venture. Machinery suppliers and consultants too are part of the meetings. The schedule for the local entrepreneur meets is as follows: Alangad on January 25, Vypeen on January 30, Palluruthy on January 31, Vyttila on February 8, Vadavukode on February 13, Pampakkuda on February 15, Mulanthuruthy on February 17, Moovattupuzha on February 20, Koovappady on February 21, Kothamangalam on February 23, Vazhakkulam on February 27 and Edappally on March 1.
