Kumaraswamy group approached BJP: MP

Staff Correspondent

That faction of the JD(S) must have realised that BJP is secular, says Angadi

Belgaum: It was the Janata Dal (Secular) faction led by H.D. Kumaraswamy that approached the BJP and not vice-versa, Lok Sabha MP from Belgaum Suresh C. Angadi has said. He was talking to presspersons here on Tuesday. The faction led by Mr. Kumaraswamy must have realised that BJP is a secular party.

There is no going back on the commitment to "Hindutva" made by the BJP President Rajnath Singh, he said. On the stability of a coalition comprising Janata Dal (Secular) and the BJP, which have conflicting ideologies, he said: "We have to be positive." He did not comment when asked why the BJP failed to claim the Chief Minister's post despite it being the single largest party in the Assembly.

He was also not forthcoming when reminded of the BJP State President Jagdish Shettar's assertion at a press conference in Belgaum that the party will face fresh elections rather than go in for tie-ups. Mr. Angadi said the BJP rank and file is not demoralised. The party has joined hands with Janata Dal (Secular) to provide good governance.

Mr. Kumarswamy felt that the Congress-led coalition government ignored infrastructure development, he said.

Mr. Angadi said, "It is politically unethical of Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh to cling on to the post when it is clear that he will not be able to prove his majority in the Assembly."

The Congress should accept the political reality and not hesitate to sit in the Opposition, Mr. Angadi said.
