Memorandum containing five demands submitted to Deputy Commissioner

IN SUPPORT OF DEMANDS: Members of the Dharwad Town Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Association taking out a procession in Dharwad on Tuesday.

DHARWAD: Members of the Dharwad Town Autorickshaw Drivers and Owners Association took out a procession here on Tuesday to press for their demands.

As part of the protest, the drivers drove around in their vehicles on the arterial roads of the city.

The procession began from the Kadapa Maidan and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner's office.

The main demand of the association is that they should be given more time for getting the old fare meters repaired.

The association members complained about the improper distribution of fare charts of the revised fares and demanded that every autorickshaw driver should be given a fare chart at the earliest.

They demanded that the authorities concerned should initiate steps to stop Bendre City Transport from providing services within the city also. Although the private bus operator is permitted only to run buses between Hubli and Dharwad, buses are being operated within the city limits also, they alleged.

They also demanded that space be provided for autorickshaws to be parked on important roads.

After reaching the Deputy Commissioner's office, the office-bearers of the association addressed the protestors and alleged that the Regional Transport Office had consulted with only one autorickshaw drivers and owners association while implementing the revised fare.

A memorandum containing the five demands of the association was submitted to M.S. Srikar, Deputy Commissioner. Receiving the memorandum, the Deputy Commissioner promised them that a meeting of the concerned would be called within a week.

Regarding the violation of the conditions of permit by Bendre City Transport, he said he would look into the matter.

Pratap Chuhan, president of the association and council member, Madhukar Mali, Kiran Jadhav and Mubarak Gulagundi, office-bearers of the association, led the protest.
