New Delhi : The former Attorney General, Soli Sorabjee, who appeared for the petitioners (members of the of the dissolved Assembly) said that the Centre "owes it to the court and Constitution to remove him. I think the Bihar Governor Buta Singh cannot and should not remain in the office for a minute after this categorical findings of the Supreme Court." He said if he does not resign and wants to hoist the flag on Republic day then "I think that Centre owes it to the court and the Constitution to remove him." Senior lawyer Fali Nariman described it as a "robust judgment and it shows the independence of the Supreme Court. Asked whether the Centre should ask Mr. Singh to resign in view of the strong indictment, Mr. Nariman said "whether or not the government does so is up to the government. But the Governor holds office during the pleasure of the Centre/President. Propriety demands and it would be proper if the Centre asks him to step down."
