NEW DELHI: The four Left parties supporting the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) from outside will meet this Friday to send a clear message to the Government that it should not be part of renewed efforts to "drag the issue of Iran's nuclear programme" to the United Nations Security Council. Briefing mediapersons here on Tuesday, CPI general secretary A.B. Bardhan said the Left parties would meet on January 27 and tell the Government "in clear terms our view on this matter." According to him, India would not gain anything from joining the U.S. and the European Union in their agenda on Iran. "We wish to tell the Government that they should not be party to this game. Diplomatic efforts and negotiations for finding a solution should continue." He also questioned the Western powers' hypocritical attitude that sought to stall Iran's nuclear programme while tolerating Israel which "we all know is a nuclear State." The meeting comes ahead of the special session of the International Atomic Energy Agency governing board in Vienna on Iran on February 2 and 3.
