NEW DELHI: One person has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police for allegedly duping several people of their money by promising them jobs in various foreign countries. According to the police, one Surender Pal had lodged a complaint with the Anti-Fraud and Cheating Section of the EOW saying that one Jagdish Singh Grover had taken Rs. 4 lakhs for sending him to Canada and help him get a job there. However, Jagdish did not fulfil his promise and had threatened him of dire consequences when he tried to get his money back. The EOW team, under the Assistant Commissioner of Police, M.K. Sharma, further came across another complainant who had taken Rs. 4.6 lakhs from him on the pretext of sending his son to the United Kingdom. The complainant had pooled in all his life's savings to raise the amount. Jagdish was arrested on January 19 and remanded to police custody till January 23 by a city court. Apart from several passports, visa applications and other travel documents, the police also recovered a Korean pistol lighter. Deputy Commissioner of Police (EOW), Prabhakar, said Jagdish used the lighter for threatening his victims when they came asking for their money. A graduate in political science from the Delhi University, Jagdish had begun earning his livelihood by taking up an odd job.
