Rajasekhara Murthy questions need for talks with Sonia Gandhi

Statements
  • Congress plotted to split JD(S)
  • S.M. Krishna responsible for crisis
  • Prevent Congress from creating scenario for Assembly dissolution

BANGALORE: The former Minister M. Rajasekhara Murthy, who joined the Janata Dal (Secular) recently, has said that what the Bharatiya Janata Party-Janata Dal (S) combine in the State needs to do is to prevent the Congress from creating a situation that would lead to the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly.

He has questioned the need for JD(S) leader H.D. Deve Gowda to hold talks with Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Coming out in support of H.D. Kumaraswamy allying with the BJP, he appealed to Mr. Deve Gowda to rid himself of the apprehension that it will harm his secular image and that of the party.

In a statement to the press Mr. Murthy alleged that the Congress "hatched a sinister design" to split the Janata Dal (S). Stating that Mr. Deve Gowda should wholeheartedly endorse the action taken by Mr. Kumaraswamy and extend support to the JD(S)-BJP alliance, Mr. Murthy said the Congress must be prevented from creating a constitutional crisis leading to the dissolution of the Assembly.
