Bangalore University announces results

BANGALORE: Bangalore University has announced the results of the following undergraduate degree examinations held during November/December 2005: final year B.Com (annual scheme), final year B.Sc. (annual scheme), final year B.B.M. (annual scheme), 2nd, 4th and 6th semester B.C.A. (repeaters).

The principals of the colleges concerned should contact the Examination Branch, Central College camp, and collect the result sheets and marks cards, a university release said.

D.Pharm exam results on Friday

BANGALORE: The results of the D.Pharm Part II annual examination held in October 2005 will be announced on January 27 at 5 p.m. at the office of the Board of Examining Authority, Government College Pharmacy, Subbaiah Circle, P. PF beneficiaries to get social security number

MYSORE: The Government is contemplating the introduction of social security numbers to Provident Fund beneficiaries. This was stated by Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner H. Rama Naik while delivering a lecture on "Recent policy changes in the Provident Fund — provisions and procedures," here on Tuesday.

This will be introduced in phases in different circles, and Mysore is second in the list after Mangalore where such a facility will be introduced by April, he said. The scheme is being introduced in a phased manner given the enormity of the task involved. It is reckoned that there are more than 35 million EPF beneficiaries who will have to be covered under the scheme. The beneficiaries will receive a number that will facilitate easy transfer of money in case of change of job. — Special Correspondent

Plea on elections disposed of

Bangalore: A Division Bench comprising the Chief Justice, Cyriac Joseph, and Justice S. Abdul Nazeer on Tuesday disposed of a petition seeking a direction to postpone elections to a sugar factory cooperative in Shravanabelagola.

The petitioner said the elections, if held, could create law and order problems. Moreover, the Mahamastakabhisheka of Bahubali was in progress and this had led to the entry of scores of persons into the town.

The Bench said the petitioner was not a voter or member of the factory. It said the petitioner could give a representation to the authorities to postpone the elections. — Staff Reporter

AIPJD to back Dharam Singh government

DAVANGERE: Subash Chandra, Working President of the youth wing of the All India Progressive Janata Dal has said that the party has decided to ask its nine MLAs to support the Dharam Singh government during the vote of confidence. The party has decided to extend "conditional support" to Dharam Singh government.

He told presspersons here on Tuesday that AIPJD workers will observe `Black Day' on the day a new government led by JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy is sworn in.

Mr. Chandra said JD(S) President H.D. Deve Gowda's single-point agenda is to make Mr. Kumaraswamy, his son, Chief Minister. — Staff Correspondent

`Commitment to secularism exposed'

BANGALORE: The decision of the Janata Dal (Secular) to form a government with BJP support has exposed its "commitment to secularism," said the State Committee of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI).

In a press note, it said the greed for power forced a group of JD(S) MLAs to withdraw support to the Dharam Singh government. The JD(S) and BJP are bereft of any principled politics. The people find no difference among the JD(S), the Congress and the BJP, it said. — Special Correspondent

Retired health officer's

house burgled

RAICHUR: Thieves broke into the house of Shakar Talwar, retired health officer, at Nijalingappa Colony in the city and took away gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 1.66 lakhs and Rs. 8,500 in cash on Monday night. The police said the accused entered the house after breaking open the lock of the main door when Mr. Talwar and his family were away in Bijapur. Three arrested on

gambling charge

RAICHUR: The police arrested Shek Mahaboob and Mohammed Yusuf from Jahirabad in the city and Bheemanna from Navalkal in Manvi taluk on Monday on charge of gambling and recovered Rs. 2,200 from them. They have been remanded in judicial custody. Two cases have been registered with the Netajinagar police station and the Sirwar police station.

Woman arrested

RAICHUR: The police arrested Nazeema (28) and recovered 15 litres of spurious toddy from her while she was allegedly selling it at the Mylarlingnagar Locality in the city on Monday. She has been remanded in judicial custody. The City Market Police have registered a case. — Staff Correspondent
