NIT-C students bag prizes

More than 100 teams participate in fete

KOZHIKODE: Four students of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C), bagged top prizes at Techfest-2006, an annual science and technology festival at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, from January 20 to 22.

Gurav Bhimashankar S. (final year) and Deepak Malani (third year), students of electronics and communication engineering, won the first prize in industry defined problem, based on the design of an eco-friendly and energy efficient desalination device for household utility.

The award constituted of a cash prize of Rs. 11,000 and an opportunity to do summer internship at John F. Welch Technology Centre, Bangalore, of General Electric, sponsors of the event. Eohan George of computer science and engineering (third year) and Shameem Usman of mechanical engineering (second year) bagged the second prize in `Full Throttle,' a car racing contest sponsored by Castrol.

More than 100 teams participated in this event.

The team won a cash prize of $ 300 (Rs. 13,500 approximately), K.P. Mohandas, Dean-Academic (Postgraduate Studies and Research), NIT-C, said in a press release here on Tuesday.
