Training for entrepreneurs in Hassan

Small and medium entrepreneurs to be apprised of international norms for exports

  • Hassan SEZ may attract many industries
  • An export-oriented garment unit coming up
  • Help of experts sought for the programme

HASSAN: The Hassan District Chamber of Commerce and Industries (HDCCI) in association with the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce (FKCCI) and Industries will be holding a training camp for small and medium entrepreneurs on January 28, to create awareness among them on the international norms.

Chamber president H.S. Ravikumar told presspersons here on Tuesday that entrepreneurs from Hassan, Chikmagalur and Kodagu district will be participating in the training camp.

Although the entrepreneurs can export their products to Europe, they could not do so for want of awareness about international norms to export their products.

To overcome this problem, the chamber has decided to organize this camp, he added.

With the Centre deciding to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the outskirts of Hassan, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to export their products, he said.

A Mumbai-based export-oriented garment industry is setting up a unit in SEZ on 100 acres of land and the single window agency of Karnataka State Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has cleared a few more such industries.

    Hope for industry

This has raised hopes of the trading community in the area. Small and medium entrepreneurs are planning to set up their own export-oriented industries in SEZ.

In view of this, it is essential to train them in industrial trade norms, he added.

The chamber has sought the help of experts in international trade to train the entrepreneurs during the workshop, he said.
