Rajahmundry: Samajwadi Party MP and film Actress Jayaprada on Tuesday advocated major irrigation project Polavaram, which, she said, would give new life to lakhs of farmers along the river Godavari. Addressing a mammoth gathering from the dais of Godavari Utsav inauguration here tonight, she said she was supporting the project firmly and asked all political parties to extend cooperation in making the dream a reality. "Polavaram should come at any cost. Lakhs of farmers and people living on the river Godavari will be benefited after the completion of the project. Keep away the differences on the project," she said. Ms. Jayaprada said that she got an opportunity to serve the people of the regions of two great rivers in the country -- Ganga and Godavari. "It is Ganga in Rampur from where I am representing in Parliament and it is Godavari in Rajahmundry where I took birth," she said with pride. She said she was fortunate to take birth in East Godavari district as the sacred Godavari flows through this place. She said she was delighted to inaugurate the Utsav as `son (daughter) of soil'. The MP said she wanted to build `Kalakshetra'. She requested Minister J. Ramamohana Rao and district administration to sanction a site for the building, for which the Minister readily agreed. Mayor M.S. Chakravarti presided over the inaugural function and Minister Ramamohana Rao, districtr Collector A.K. Singhal and SP Naveen Chand spoke. MP Vundavelli Aruna Kumar said Rajahmundry was not only cultural capital of the State, but it also produced towering personality like Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu and reformist Kandukuri Veeresalingam and asked the people to follow in the footsteps of great leaders.
