Documentaries on `Navratna' PSUs

NEW DELHI: Doordarshan is making 30-minute documentaries on the nine `Navratna' public sector undertakings in recognition of their immense contribution to infrastructure development in the country.

As part of this series, DD news channel will telecast a documentary on Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited this Wednesday, highlighting the company's contribution to the country's power sector since Independence.

Seminar on

Indo-Hungary ties

NEW DELHI: In continuation of the ongoing Hungarian Cultural Festival in India, a two-day seminar on "Indo-Hungarian Mutualities" opened at Delhi University's South Campus on Tuesday. It has been organised by the Hungarian Information and Cultural Centre and the Department of Slavonic and Finno-Ugrian Studies, South Campus.

The seminar will address many aspects of Indo-Hungarian relations including economy, trade, art, culture, literature, language, translation, music, and cinema.

Traders' demand

NEW DELHI: The Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) on Tuesday demanded that Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram incorporate the Kelkar Committee's recommendations on goods and services tax (GST) in the forthcoming Union Budget.

It also suggested that a work task force be set up comprising representatives from trade and industry to discuss a road map for GST. CAIT secretary-general Praveen Khandelwal said a two-day convention of leading trade bodies from different States would be held here from January 30 to discuss GST and other core issues.

NEW DELHI: Canara Bank at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg felicitated the winners of the National Bravery Awards-2005 at a function at Rajendra Bhavan here on Monday.

Congratulating the winners, the bank's General Manager T.Y. Prabhu told the children to approach the bank in case they need educational loans to pursue higher studies.

Book on Jayadev released

NEW DELHI: Jayadev Foundation Trust released a book titled "The Gita Govinda of Shri Jayadev" at India Habitat Centre here on Tuesday.

The book, written by A.K. Tripathy and P.C. Tripathy and published by the Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, contains authentic text of the original manuscript and five additional chapters dealing with various aspects of the writings of Jayadev. The book was released by Sudha Gopalakrishnan, Director of the National Manuscript Mission.
