Railway employees stage protest

  • Employees under the banner of Dakshin Railway Employees' Union led the protest
  • They were angry with the Station Master for removing some posters pertaining to the union

    MANGALORE: Some employees of Southern Railway under the banner of Dakshin Railway Employees' Union held a protest at Hampankatta station and staged a dharna against the Station Manager of Mangalore Railway Station P. Narayanan this evening alleging that he has removed some posters and banners at the station indicating certain demands of the union.

    Balasubrahmanyan, secretary, Mangalore chapter of the Dakshin Railway Employees' Union, said that 64 protesters staged a dharna from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. District secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Vasudeva, and representative of LIC Employees' Union participated in the dharna. Mr. Narayanan told The Hindu that the Dakshin Railway Employees' Union has not been recognised by the railways and that the posters had been put up in violation of the rules.
