Farmers' protest

Forest Department has declared 350 acres a reserve forest area

BELLARY: Farmers from Holalkere taluk in Chitradurga district, under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), staged a dharna in front of the Forest Settlement Officer here on Wednesday to protest against the department's move to vacate them from their fields. Farmers have been cultivating around 350 acres of land in Gilakanahalli and T.Yemmiganur villages for the past 20 years. Now the Forest Department has declared it a reserve forest area, protestors said.
