NEW DELHI: Film Director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, social worker Nirmala Deshpande and author Mahasweta Devi are among the nine persons who have been conferred with Padma Vibhushan award, the second highest civilian honour. No one has been chosen for the highest honour, the Bharat Ratna for the second successive year.

Veteran actor A. K. Hangal; leading banker Deepak Parekh; Defence analyst Air Comodore (retd.) Jasjit Singh; industrialist K.P.P. Nambiar; Telgu actor K. Chiranjeevi; Infosys number two Nandan Nilekani; TCS Chief S. Ramadorai and Magsaysay award winner and cancer specialist, Dr. V. Shanta, are among the 36 prominent people from various fields chosen for the Padma Bhushan.
