Erode
Staff Reporter
ERODE: The Erode Municipal chairman, M. Subramanian, has demanded the Lorry Owners Association to construct a lorry stand on the space provided at the Municipal VOC Park, at the earliest. Presiding over the Municipal Town Development Council meeting on Wednesday, he said the land has been provided on lease. Mr. Subramanian said that a plan for the construction of a shopping complex in the Municipal Abdul Gani Market was pending approval from the Government.
Slaughter house
The slaughter house may be constructed outside the town limits, Mr. Subramanian said. The firewood market, now functioning on Mettur Road every morning, too may be shifted outside the town limits. Municipal officials had been told to submit detailed feasibility reports, he said. Mr. Subramanian asked the Government to appoint more employees in all the 45 Municipal wards for cleaning and collection of garbage. Because of shortage in staff, the administration could not make Erode a garbage-free Municipality, he said. The Erode Municipal Commissioner, K. R. Selvaraj, the Town Development Consultant, Abdul Razak, and officials from Town Planning, Engineering and Health departments attended the meeting.
