Jaymeeta and Mark of London got married at Kandath Tharavad at Thenkurissi, near Palakkad, on Monday, fulfilling an ambition of these British citizens to tie the knot in Hindu custom in the most beautiful place in India. They had found that Kerala fit the bill. A huge thatched pandal came up for the ceremony on the compound of the over 200-year-old ancestral house of the Kandath family, erstwhile landlords. Forming the background for the nuptials was a green paddy field, surrounded by palms. The traditional `Nalukettu' structure of the house was decked up. House owner K.S. Bhagawaldas acted the `karanavar' (head of the family). The parents of the couple had come from London. In the morning of the wedding day, the couple and their family members visited the nearby Siva temple to get the `thali' blessed.nied by Nadaswaram, Kavadiattom and Panchavadyam. Members of the bridegroom's family were received with a `Thalapoli.' Prabhakaran, priest, recited a few Sanskrit verses and the bride and the bridegroom repeated it, followed by Swayamvara Parvathy and Mangalya pujas. A Kerala style feast was organised for the 400 guests. The foreigners were delighted to see the marriage and have the vegetarian lunch.
