Call for entrepreneurship

A seminar on coconut growing organised by the Kannur District Horticultural Society here brought to focus the real situation in the State as far as coconut growing is concerned. And there was no better person to highlight the situation than District Collector K.S. Srinivas who hails from Andhra Pradesh which has recorded higher coconut productivity than Kerala.

Mr. Srinivas, in fact, set the right tone for the entire seminar session that emphasised the importance of steps to improve productivity. The shops or parlours selling tender coconuts in the State are very few, he said. A tender coconut here is priced Rs.12 while in Andhra Pradesh you could buy one by paying one-third of that price, he said. Some of those who attended the seminar said it was high time coconut growers here cultivated a spirit of entrepreneurship among themselves.
