Belgaum: Agriculture Minister Prakash B. Hukkeri has expressed the hope that the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition Government in the State will survive the confidence motion on Friday. Anything may happen in a coalition regime, new developments may take place any time and therefore there is no need for him to lose heart, he told presspersons after participating in the Republic Day celebrations here on Thursday. Mr. Hukkeri expressed satisfaction over his achievements as the district in-charge Minister. He said his area of work is not limited to his constituency alone but the entire district. He proposed to take steps for the establishment of an agriculture university or a veterinary university in the district. He has many plans some of which have been implemented. They include the government medical college to come up here in the next academic year. He managed to get Rs. 50 crores for the development of the district, he said.
Funds
He said though it may take some more time for Chikkodi to be made a district, he managed to bring all district offices to that town for the convenience of the people. In addition to Rs. 10.76 crores towards drinking water supply in 1,210 villages, the Government has sanctioned Rs. 4.95 lakhs for a drinking water supply scheme for 12 villages in Hukkeri taluk, 813 anganawadis and Rs. 56 lakhs for a marketing complex here, he added.

The district administration honoured freedom fighters, sportsmen, home guards and NCC cadets as part of the celebrations. The freedom fighters felicitated are Narayan Bandhu Deshpande of Hudli in Belgaum taluk; Balappa Doddabasappa Kahanpure ofAkka Tangerhal in Gokak taluk; Dattacharya Sheguncharya Katti of Munvalli in Saundatti taluk; Shankreppa Patreppa Hongal of Yekundi in Saudatti taluk; Basappa Mukappa Ajur of Kottalgi in Athani taluk, and Kadsiddappa Basappa Kulbhavi of Gundevadi in Athani taluk. The Youth Award was given to Mallappa K. Kundargi, Grameen Yuva Sudarshan Committee, Udpudi, Ramdurg; Surekha B. Patil, Bharat Maata Grameen Abhivruddhi Society, Kangrali K.H.; Mahantesh S. Kasgar, Parasgad Youth Federation, Saudatti; Prakash P. Dange, Sri Beereshwar Yuva Sangh, Shirguppi, Athani, and Hanumant R. Adin, Sri Mahrishi Bhagirath Yuvak Sangh, Upparatti, Gokak. The Best Youth Organisation Award for 2004-05 was given to Rangadarshan Grameen Vikas Yuva Sangh, Tulganwadi, Chikkodi. Winners of the Visisht Seva Medal Hanumant Upasamadeshastaru, Home Guard, Belgaum, and P.M. Ukkojikar, ASI, DAR, Belgaum, were felicitated. Best NCC cadets (State-level) Snehali Bhosle, Priyanka Tarale, Varsha Holennavar, Komal Mohite, Manjupriya Hattiholi and Istare Pail from St. Joseph's High School were felicitated. Sneha Vijaukumar Karekar of Belgaum was honoured for her achievements in sports and Rajesh Shinde and other physically and mentally challenged swimmers were also felicitated on the occasion.
