No interference in fish medicine: court

Legal Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court on Wednesday made it clear that the court was not inclined to interfere and pass any orders regarding the administration of the `substance' popularly known as fish medicine.

The bench was closing petitions filed by the Jana Vignan Vedika (JVV) and others. The petitioners complained that even after it was established that the substance distributed by the Bathini brothers had no medicinal value, no action was initiated by the Government.

The bench pointedly asked two questions. One was whether the Bathini brothers claimed that this was medicine and if they were assuring cure for asthma. The second question was whether the substance contained any harmful material. The bench recorded the fact that the various established laboratories had analysed the substance and no one said that the substance contained harmful material. The bench reminded that if people flock to have a substance out of faith the courts cannot interfere.
