VIJAYAWADA: City Police Commissioner Umesh Sharraf on Thursday said that sustaining good policing alone could bring citizens closer to the police. Addressing the police personnel after unfurling the national flag on Armed Reserve Grounds on the Republic Day, he said that the police could not succeed in their mission unless they had the cooperation of citizens in dealing with criminals. Mr. Sharraf recalled that he had promised to deliver to the citizens a police set-up they could be proud of. "Today, I can say that our men have kept their word," he said. Mr. Sharraf reviewed the Republic Day parade and presented `Uttama Seva Patakam' to six personnel and `Seva Patakam' to eight men working in the Commissionerate. Tableaux of the APSRTC, Vijaya Milk Dairy, Animal Husbandry department, Fire Services department and the Childline, ballets by the students of Montessori High School, S.K.C.V. Bala Prema Girls High School, N.S.M. Public School, Navajeevan Bala Bhavan and R.C.M. Telugu Medium School entertained the audience. Deputy Commissioner of Police U.V.S. Raju, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) A. Umamaheswara Rao were present.
