Lakhera gives away service medals

Schools presented trophies for meritorious performance

Pondicherry : Lt. Governor M.M. Lakhera unfurled the tricolour at the Indira Gandhi sports complex at Uppalam near here on Thursday, marking the Republic Day celebrations in the Union Territory.

Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, his ministerial colleagues, Speaker of the Assembly M.D.R. Ramachandran, legislators, officials, freedom fighters and AICC General Secretary V. Narayansamy, MP, were among those who witnessed the over two hour-long celebrations.

The Lt. Governor, who inspected guard of honour presented by the Pondicherry Armed Police, gave away the President's Police Medals for meritorious services to Superintendent of Police (Traffic) G. Vijayasundaram and two Police Inspectors B. Arumugham and M. Angappan.

Mr. Lakhera also presented the Lt. Governor's Police Medals for Extraordinary Services to Alphonse Calingarayar (Radio Technician Grade-I) and P.Bhaskaran (Head Constable).

Nine privately-managed schools — St Joseph of Cluny Girls HSS, Sri Sankara Vidyalaya, Servite English High school (Karaikal), St Joseph Girls Higher Secondary school, Immaculate Heart of Mary's Gils High School, Villianoor, Jayarani Girls HS, Immaculate Heart of Mary`s Girls HS, Ariyankuppam, Subramani Bharathi English School, Tirukanoor, and St Joseph English HS, Tiruvandarkoil — were jointly presented the Chief Minister's Rolling Trophy. All of them had achieved cent per cent pass in the Standard X (Matriculation or SSLC) public examinations in 2005.

The Education Minister's Rolling Trophy was presented to the management of Amalorpavam HSS ( also a private institution). The Education Minister's Rolling Trophy for Government HSS was given to Soucilabai Government Girls HSS.

The Archbishop of Pondicherry and the Pondicherry University Vice-Chancellor rolling trophies were given to Amalorpavam HSS, St Joseph Cluny Girls HSS and St Patrick's HSS (all private institutions).

The Lion Professor Ambady Narayanan rolling trophy was bagged by the Tamizh Thendral Thiru Vi.Kaa Government HS for best all round performance in academic and co-curricular activities.

Various departments presented tableaux highlighting their achievements.
