YSR's mother laid to rest

Congress leaders, people pay their last respects to Jayamma

KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's mother and former Pulivendula sarpanch Y.S. Jayamma, 76, was laid to rest beside her husband Y.S. Raja Reddy's samadhi in Pulivendula town on Thursday.

Large number of people lined up along the streets of Pulivendula to have a last glimpse of Jayamma, affectionately called `amma'. Jayamma, who fell in her house on January 9 and slipped into coma, breathed her last at Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, on Wednesday. The body was brought in an ambulance to her residence at Pulivendula at 4.30 a.m. and placed before the house to enable people to pay their respects. All shops in the town were closed as a mark of respect. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy, his wife Vijayalakshmi, daughter Sharmila and grandson Jaganmohan Reddy who reached Pulivendula by helicopter at 9.30 a.m. took part in the last rites.

Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy's brother and Kadapa MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and other relatives were present. A host of Congress leaders, activists and people of adjoining mandals thronged the town for the funeral.
